I suppose it could shorten the service interval but I don’t really service them unless there is a problem with timekeeping and so far so good. I hit the gym about 6 times a week from work and will keep one of my watches on NATO. My workouts are pretty intense and not once has my watch felt like it's in the way. I just love to wear/bring my watch with me no matter what I'm doing. It's part of the fun relationship we have with these things.
