Despite it being a very popular model amongst vintage Omega watch collectors, there is still much confusion around the Seamaster de Ville (SMDV), and the fact it bears the names of two different series surely doesn't help. Hands will most likely be dauphine, lumed or un-lumed, depending on whether the dial is lumed or un-lumed. The tip of the minute hand generally extends to, or past, the outer end of the applied markers, to overlap with the minute track. Greetings vintage Omega experts - I am writing to confirm that these dauphine hands do not belong on this 1965 Seamaster 600 (cal 611 manual wind). I have looked at thousands of web photos of 600s and have only seen the straight baton hands on these. So I have 3 quick questions: 1. can someone confirm that these hands are incorrect?
I have sourced some hands in the hope of restoring them and replacing the ones from my Seamaster 2767 that are very pitted. I essentially got them for free, so I am willing to try few restoration methods on them, including bathing them in acid, polishing, replacing the lume etc. I have been told by a forum member that the hands should be 'Gold Faceted Luminous Dauphine', whereas at the moment they are just 'Gold Dauphine'. However, my watchmaker doubts that these were ever luminous. The 34mm Omega Seamaster is something of an underappreciated relic in vintage watch lore. It is so plentiful on the secondary market that it can be had for prices with only three zeros. This particular watch was my father's, a gift from his father just over 60 years ago.
